Lottery Overview & Statistics

Mega Sena is Brazil's flagship national lottery, operated by Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF), a government-owned bank. Using a 6/60 matrix, the jackpot probability of 1 in 50,063,860 makes it one of the largest-pool standard lottery games in the world. The game launched in 1996.

Mega Sena jackpots regularly reach into the hundreds of millions of Brazilian Reais (R$). The all-time record prize paid was R$306 million (approximately $60 million USD at the time). The prize accumulates when unwon, with no cap.

Brazil holds two special Mega Sena editions annually: Mega da Virada (New Year's Eve draw) with a guaranteed minimum jackpot of R$500 million, and Mega da Semana Santa (Easter). These special editions do not roll over, the prize is shared among Division 1 winners or cascaded to Division 2.

Game Format & Rules

Players select 6 numbers from a pool of 60 (1-60). No bonus or supplementary number is used. A Division 1 win requires matching all 6 drawn numbers. Three prize divisions are used, making Mega Sena notable for its streamlined structure.

Division 1 (Sena): 6/6, jackpot, odds 1:50,063,860. Division 2 (Quina): 5/6, pari-mutuel secondary pool, odds 1:154,518. Division 3 (Quadra): 4/6, pari-mutuel tertiary pool, odds 1:2,332.

All three divisions are pari-mutuel, meaning prize amounts fluctuate based on ticket sales and winner counts. Players may opt for "surpresinha" (Quick Pick), a "bolão" (group entry through Caixa), or purchase bolão slots through partner platforms. Tickets cost R$5 per six-number selection.

Prize Structure & Odds Analysis

Mega Sena uses an entirely pari-mutuel prize structure across all three divisions. Division 1 (Sena, 6/6): 35% of prize pool. Division 2 (Quina, 5/6): 19% of prize pool. Division 3 (Quadra, 4/6): 19% of prize pool. The remaining 27% is held for special edition reserves and operational costs.

When the jackpot (Division 1) is unwon, the 35% allocation carries over to the next draw, causing the jackpot to accumulate. There is no hard cap. Divisions 2 and 3 do not carry over; they are redistributed if no winners exist in those tiers.

Brazilian residents pay 13.8% tax on Mega Sena prizes (Imposto de Renda). Non-resident foreign nationals are also subject to withholding taxes on Brazilian lottery wins. The Mega da Virada jackpot does not roll over regardless of winner status.

Draw Schedule & Deadlines

Mega Sena draws are conducted every Wednesday and Saturday at approximately 20:00 BRT (Brasília Time, UTC-3). Draws are broadcast live from the Espaço Caixa lottery studio in São Paulo.

Ticket purchase deadlines are approximately 19:00 BRT on draw days. International players purchasing through intermediary platforms should confirm their platform's cutoff, which may differ from the official Caixa deadline.

Special edition draws (Mega da Virada on December 31, Mega da Semana Santa) follow separate dedicated schedules with their own ticket sale periods, typically open for several weeks in advance. Results for all draws are published immediately on the Caixa website and affiliated outlets.

Cryptocurrency Ticket Purchases

Mega Sena tickets, including standard Wednesday and Saturday draws, are available on this platform via cryptocurrency payment. Supported assets include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Tether, and other major digital currencies.

Deposits are credited after standard blockchain confirmation. Ticket purchases deduct from confirmed account balances at current platform pricing. All three prize divisions (Sena, Quina, Quadra) are credited to the platform account following official result certification by Caixa.

Withdrawals of prize winnings are available in supported cryptocurrencies. Special edition draws (Mega da Virada) may be available separately during their respective ticketing windows. The platform operates as an authorised ticket intermediary.
